Julio Florencio Cortázar Descotte nasce in Belgio nel 1914 e passa la vita tra Argentina e Francia.
Noto per i suoi racconti dalla linearità temporale peculiare e i personaggi caratterizzati da una psicologia profonda, è scrittore dalla vocazione sperimentale.
Ha anche tradotto le Memorie di Adriano di Marguerite Yourcenar in spagnolo.
Muore il 12 febbraio 1984 a Parigi.
