George Gordon Byron

George Gordon Byron (1788-1824) è il poeta più rappresentativo del Romanticismo inglese.

Fu l’emblema di una poetica del vivere, di una vita dissipata, tra amori assoluti e ideali estremi. Scrisse opere decisive – “Il pellegrinaggio del giovane Aroldo, Don Juan, Mazeppa” – morì in Grecia, a Missolungi, per liberare i greci dalla dominazione turca.

Fu talmente eccessivo da diventare un genere, il “byronismo”.
